About

Hello, I’m Nana’Yaa Sarpong—Founder and CEO of ObiYaa Nana.
My journey into fashion began in the heart of Ghana, where I grew up watching my mother, affectionately known as Aunty Lizzy, transform vibrant fabrics into beautiful dresses for my sisters and me. We didn’t have much, but what we wore carried love, creativity, and uniqueness. While others wore store-bought “ready-made” clothes to Christmas church services, we proudly wore custom-made pieces stitched with purpose and care—crafted by our mother’s skilled hands. She always reminded us: "Custom-made is special—no one else will have what you’re wearing."
That belief became the foundation of my passion. As I grew older, I was naturally drawn to tailors and seamstresses—watching, learning, and slowly nurturing the art of design and sewing. I began creating pieces for myself, then for friends and family, and eventually for clients who saw fashion the way I do: as a bold, personal expression.
Today, that childhood love has blossomed into ObiYaa Nana, a fashion brand born from tradition, individuality, and creative freedom.
At ObiYaa Nana, we believe that fashion is in the eye of the beholder—and the only rule is confidence.
Welcome! May your eyes behold something beautiful.
About ObiYaa nana
The name ObiYaa Nana holds deep personal meaning. I was named after my beloved grandmother, Obiyaa, who was affectionately called Eno Yaa by everyone, including her grandchildren—an endearing exception to the traditional "Nana" used in most Ghanaian homes. Growing up, people who knew her would often say, "You are your grandmother’s child," because of our shared spirit and presence. That connection to her strength, grace, and creativity lives on in everything I design.
My love for fashion was sparked early in life while growing up in Ghana. My mother, Aunty Lizzy, would sew dresses for my sisters and me from vibrant fabrics we handpicked together. We didn’t wear store-bought clothes—we wore custom-made designs that no one else had. That planted the seed of creativity in me and taught me to value uniqueness. Over time, I found myself naturally drawn to tailors and seamstresses, fascinated by their artistry. I began making pieces for myself, then for others, and eventually brought my lifelong passion to life through ObiYaa Nana.
The vision behind ObiYaa Nana is to reimagine African prints—especially Ankara—by crafting them into fashion-forward pieces using a variety of luxurious fabrics such as chiffon, rayon, satin, wool, and more. While African prints are traditionally paired with cotton, I believe their beauty and versatility deserve to shine in every season, through diverse textures, colors, and styles. From winter coats to resort wear, each piece tells a story of culture and confidence.
At ObiYaa Nana, you’ll find a curated selection of stunning apparel and accessories including dresses, gowns, coats, tops, pants, dusters, scarves, and more. If you’re new to prints, explore our “Style Your Print” section for inspiration and creative styling tips.
